The Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) is a distinguished public institution located in Nairobi, Kenya. Originally established in 1956 as Kenya Technical Institute, the university has a rich history of growth and transformation. It began operations on its current site on January 1, 1961, and was officially opened on May 29, 1961. In 1967, it was formally registered as The Kenya Polytechnic by the Ministry of Education.

On August 23, 2007, the President of Kenya signed the Kenya Polytechnic University College Legal Order, elevating it to a constituent college of the University of Nairobi. Subsequently, in line with the Universities Act of 2012, it achieved full university status and was rebranded as The Technical University of Kenya, the first technical university in the country.
