Project Duration and Funding

The BANATEX-EA project is funded by the UK Government through the SMEP Programme, implemented by PEGASYS under the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

FreakinFuture

Leveraging blockchain and decentralized technologies, FreakinFuture enables a seamless and secure shopping experience that supports sustainable fashion choices and ethical brands.

Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID)

Ugandans have been feeding on Bananas (matooke) for so many years. According to estimates, over 10 million tonnes are produced every year. It is also estimated that at least 10 million people feed on bananas as their main food in Uganda, with many more consuming it across the region. However, there is a lot of wastage of the banana.

TEXFAD

TEXFAD is a young and dynamic company specializing in both manufacturing and skills training. TEXFAD offers skills training for both formal and non-formal skills. We are well known for our innovative approach to value addition to the world’s most wasteful crop through a process of extraction of natural fibers from vegetative sources and production of eco-friendly textile and handicraft products with high commercial value.

Moi University

In January 1981 a Presidential Working Party chaired by the distinguished Canadian academic, Dr. Colin B. Mackay, was convened to prepare detailed recommendations for a second university in Kenya and their report was presented to the then President, H. E. Hon. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi in September 1981. The report strongly recommended that the new university should have a distinct bias towards technology.

The Technical University of Kenya (TU-K)

The Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) is a distinguished public institution located in Nairobi, Kenya. Originally established in 1956 as Kenya Technical Institute, the university has a rich history of growth and transformation. It began operations on its current site on January 1, 1961, and was officially opened on May 29, 1961. In 1967, it was formally registered as The Kenya Polytechnic by the Ministry of Education.

Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS)

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body operating under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives. Established by the UNBS Act Cap 210, UNBS began its operations in 1989. The organization is governed by the National Standards Council and is led by an Executive Director responsible for daily operations.

National Textile University (NTU), Pakistan

National Textile University (NTU), located in Faisalabad, Pakistan, is a leading institution dedicated to advancing textile education and research. Established to meet the evolving demands of the textile industry, NTU offers specialized programs in textile engineering, fashion design, polymer engineering, and business studies. The university places a strong emphasis on research and innovation, equipping students with practical skills and industry knowledge essential for supporting Pakistan’s role in the global textile market.

Busitema University

Busitema University is a multi-campus public university located in the eastern region of Uganda. The main campus is at Busitema, with additional campuses at Nagongera, Namasagali, Arapai, Mbale, Pallisa, and Kaliro. Established by statutory instrument in 2007, Busitema University focuses on essential study programs across various fields, including Engineering, Science Education, Health Sciences, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Management Sciences, and Vocational Education.
